Βιογραφικό του David Glass

Ο David Glass είναι ένας παγκόσμια βραβευμένος performer, σκηνοθέτης, δάσκαλος και δημιουργός. Είναι ένας από τους ιδρυτές των νεότερων μορφών θεάτρου μεταξύ των οποίων το Σωματικό θέατρο (Physical Theatre), το Οπτικό θέατρο (Visual Theatre) και το Θέατρο της Επινόησης (Devised Theatre) .

Μετά τις σπουδές του στη Σχολή Σωματικού Θεάτρου Lecoq στο Παρίσι, μαθήτευσε πλάι στους Decroux, Grotowski, Alvin Ailey, Mike Alfreds, Ed Berman, Peter Brook, Master Lim και Augusto Boal. Είναι ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους δασκάλους διεθνώς και έχει διδάξει και επηρεάσει τρεις γενιές δημιουργών θεάτρου σε 73 χώρες, μεταξύ των οποίων οι Simon McBurney (Complicite), Emma Thompson (ηθοποιός), Amit Lehav (Gecko Theatre), Hayley Carmichael και Paul Hunter (Told by An Idiot), Lloyd Newson (DV8), Liam Steele (Σκηνοθέτης σωματικού θεάτρου), Stephen Daldry (Billy Eliot), Tina Ellen Lee (Opera Circus), Jim Chim Hoi (Theatre Ensemble Hong Kong) και Tom Morris (Warhorse). Επιπλέον έχει επηρεάσει και performer όπως οι Kathrine Hunter, Anna Marie-Duff, Sarah Parrish και η Gong Lee. Ανέκαθεν αντισυμβατικός, ο David θεωρείται συχνά ως μια από τις προσωπικότητες – ορόσημο για το παγκόσμιο θέατρο.

Έχοντας πλέον εργαστεί σε περισσότερες από 70 χώρες, ιδρύει το 1999 το David Glass Ensemble με το οποίο και περιοδεύει σε 32 χώρες με το Gomenghast του Mervyn Peake, παράσταση που θα του εξασφάλισε και το βραβείο καλύτερου σκηνοθέτη το 1993 (TMA Best Director Award). 

Ήταν από τους πρώτους που διασκεύασαν επί σκηνής διάσημες ταινίες, μεταξύ των οποίων τα Les Enfants de Paradis συν-σκηνοθεσία με τον Mike Alfreds – και το Dolce Vita του Fellini, αλλά και την παγκόσμια πρώτη επί σκηνής μεταφορά του Popeye, και την πολύκροτη εκδοχή του Mosquito Coast του Paul Theroux. 

Πάντοτε σκηνικά εντυπωσιακός και ριζοσπαστικός, οι τελευταίες του δουλειές περιλαμβάνουν την εξαιρετική παράσταση Bleak House, καθώς και την καινοτόμα διασκευή του Fahrenheit 451 του Ray Bradbury. Ο David είναι συνιδρυτής και Αναπληρωτής Καλλιτεχνικός Διευθυντής του Theatre Ash στο Hong Kong και συνιδρυτής του Theatre Collective στη Σιένα, Ιταλία. Το 1997 πραγματοποίησε το πρωτοποριακό Lost Child Project, στη διάρκεια του οποίου δούλεψε με περισσότερα από 10.000 άστεγα παιδιά σε 22 χώρες και το 2000 ίδρυσε το πρώτο Κέντρο για Δημιουργική Ανάπτυξη (Centre for Creative Development) σε συνεργασία με την VBNK στην Καμπότζη.  Ίδρυσε και εκπαίδευσε την πρώτη ομάδα θεάτρου (Forum Theatre Company) σε συνεργασία με τον Παγκόσμιο Οργανισμό Υγείας και το Ίδρυμα Ford στο Βιετνάμ. Στην Καμπότζη έγραψε το βιβλίο του για τα πέντε στάδια της Δημιουργικής Πρακτικής (Creative Practice ), εγχειρίδιο που χρησιμοποιείται σήμερα παγκοσμίως για να βοηθήσει οργανισμούς όπως UNICEF, Save The Children, ILO αλλά και πολλά πανεπιστήμια να σκέφτονται και να εργάζονται πιο δημιουργικά. Ο ομαδικός τρόπος με τον οποίο δουλεύει (Ensemble practice), αποτελεί σημείο κλειδί στον τρόπο εργασίας και ανάπτυξης της David Pearl Associates.

 Το 2018 του απονεμήθηκε τιμητικά ο τίτλος του Διδάκτορα από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Bath Spa για την πρωτοποριακή συμβολή του στο θέατρο. 

Το 2002 ίδρυσε μαζί με τον Paul Zetter το Ensemble Films με σκοπό την δημιουργία ταινιών και σεναρίων με θέματα που αφορούν τις τέχνες και την ανάπτυξή τους. Στα δεκατέσσερα χρόνια λειτουργίας της, έχει γυρίσει εκατοντάδες ταινίες σε όλη την Νοτιοανατολική Ασία και πλέον δημιουργεί παρακλάδια στην Ευρώπη με συνεργάτες τους Robert Golden Pictures και, τον βραβευμένο με BAFTA, John Dale. Για δεκαπέντε χρόνια ο David συνέβαλε στην χάραξη της πολιτικής για τις τέχνες τόσο για το Συμβούλιο για τις Τέχνες της Αγγλίας (Arts Council of England) όσο και για το Βρετανικό Συμβούλιο (British Council), κατέχοντας την θέση του συμβούλου και του μέλους της επιτροπής, θέτοντας και τα κριτήρια εκπαίδευσης για το Σωματικό Θέατρο και το Θέατρο της Επινόησης για σχολεία σε όλο το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Ο David παραμένει ενεργός και εργάζεται σε 24 χώρες σε όλο τον κόσμο. Το ανανεωμένο Ensemble έχει ως συνεργάτες το Πανεπιστήμιο Bath Spa, την Δραματική Σχολή East 15, τα Lasalle College Singapore, Central Academy of Dramatic Art Beijing, The Haque Centre for Acting and Creativity Singapore DPAC in KL Malaysia, Marphy’s Playhouse, Chengdu Artogether Goungzou, Created A Monster UK, The Serbia Producing House καθώς και το National Theatre of Serbia. Το 2016 ίδρυσε το Κέντρο για τη Δημιουργική Πρακτική (Centre for Creative Practice) και διδάσκει τη δημιουργικότητα σε πολλές και διαφορετικές επιχειρήσεις και θεσμούς, σε 16 χώρες. Ηγείται και είναι ο κύριος εκπαιδευτής της Δημιουργικής Πρακτικής για τον ΟΗΕ.

Μέσα στα επόμενα πέντε χρόνια ο David θα εργάζεται σε διεθνές επίπεδο σε τέσσερα Legacy Projects. To AB Project είναι ένα έργο που θα πραγματοποιηθεί σε εννέα χώρες και αφορά την προώθηση των νέων καλλιτεχνών, βασισμένο στην περίπτωση του Νορβηγού ακροδεξιού Anders Breivik, που σκότωσε 69 νεους. Ειναι μια ευκαιρία να ακουστούν αυτές οι χαμένες φωνές σε μια εποχή νεανικής πόλωσης και περιθωριοποίησης. 

Το This Changes Everything αποτελεί μια θεατρική διασκευή της εργασίας της Naomi Klein πάνω στην κλιματική αλλαγή και τον καπιταλισμό. 

Το War/Peace είναι μια διεθνής συμπαραγωγή με τους Ολυμπιακούς του Τόκιο το 2020, και το A Devine Comedy είναι μια τριλογία η οποία τιμάει την τρέλα του θέατρου και του σύγχρονου κόσμου. 

Όλα αυτά τα πρότζεκτ  αποτελούν μια εκπαιδευτική κληρονομιά του DG Ensemble και των συνεργατών του και είναι μέρος της διατριβής του πάνω στην Δημιουργικότητα. Το 2018 ο David έγινε Ανώτερος Σύμβουλος στην Δημιουργικότητα και τη Δημιουργική Πρακτική του Υπουργείου Παιδείας της Κίνας για να εισάγει την μεθοδολογία του σε σχολεία, κολλέγια και Πανεπιστήμια μέσα στην επόμενη πενταετία.

Ο David υποστηρίζει σθεναρά το δικαίωμα των νέων ανθρώπων να εκφράζονται μέσω των τεχνών και θεωρεί ότι η δημιουργική μάθηση δεν είναι πολυτέλεια αλλά ένα εκ γενετής δικαίωμα. Είναι ένας πολίτης του κόσμου που διαμένει στο Λονδίνο.

David Glass Biography/ ENGLISH

 David Glass is an International award winning solo performer , theatre director , teacher and creative thinker. He is one of the UK founders of the Physical and VisualDevisedEnsemble  and Applied theatre movements. Training at the Lecoq school of physical theatre  he also studied with Decroux, Grotowski Alvin Ailey, Mike Alfreds, Ed Berman,Peter Brook, Master Lim  and Agusto Boal. He is a leading international theatre teacher and has taught and  influenced three generations of theatre makers in 73 countries. Including Simon McBurney (Complicite) Emma Thompson(Actress) Amit Lehav(Gecko Theatre) Hayley Carmichael and Paul Hunter  (Told by An Idiot ) Lloyd Newson(DV8) Liam Steele(Physical Director)Stephen Daldry( Billy Eliot) and Tina Ellen Lee(Opera Circus) and Jim Chim Hoi(Theatre Ensemble Hong Kong) Tom Morris (Warhorse) And has been influential in shaping the creative lives of performers such as Kathrine Hunter, Anna Marie-Duff , Sarah Parrish and Gong Lee. Always a maverick David is often sighted by Theatre Leaders as a defining force in world theatre. He has worked in over 70 countries.

In 1990 he established David Glass Ensemble and has toured to 32 countries including Mervyn Peake’s Gormenghast which won him TMA  Best Director  award in 1993. He spearheaded theatrical adaptions of films including Les Enfant de Paradis -co-directed with Mike Alfreds-and  Fellini’s La Dolce Vita as well as the first ever stage adaption of Popeye and a celebrated version of Paul Theroux’s Mosquito Coast. Always visually stunning and provocative his recent work includes an acclaimed production of  Bleak House and a visually powerful adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451.

David is co-founder and  associate artistic director of Theatre Ash in Hong Kong and co-founder of the Theatre Collective Siena Italy.

In 1997 he founded the  ground breaking Lost Child Project working with over 10,000 street children in 22 countries  and established the first Centre For Creative Development with VBNK in Cambodia in 2000. He established and trained the first Forum Theatre company in peer to peer reproductive health in Vietnam with  WHO and the Ford Foundation. In Cambodia he wrote his five stage Creative Practice book which is now used worldwide to help organisations such as Save The ChildrenUNICEF, ILO and numerous Universities around the world helping them to think and work more creatively. His Ensemble practice has been a key element in the corporate development work of David Pearl Associates.

In 2018 he  is being awarded an honouree Phd from UK University Partner Bath Spa for his innovative theatre and Creative Practice work.

In 2002 he established with Paul Zetter Ensemble Films to make films and film writing around development and arts issues. In its fourteen years it has made hundreds of films across SE Asia and is now branching out in Europe with partners Robert Golden Pictures and BAFTA award winner John Dale.

For fifteen years David helped shape arts policy and delivery for both the Arts Council of England and The British Council as a consultant and panel member and he established the learning criteria for Physical and Devised Theatre at schools in the  UK.

David continues to work Internationally in 24 countries. The reformed Ensemble has partnership homes at Bath Spa University , East 15 Drama School , Lasalle Collage Singapore and Central Academy of Dramatic Art Beijing , The Haque Centre for Acting and Creativity Singapore,DPAC in KL Malaysia, Marphy’s Playhouse Chengdu,Artogether Goungzou , Created A Monster UK and The Serbia Producing House and the National Theatre of Serbia. David is an Associate Artistic Director of Theatre Ash Hong Kong and The Theatre Collective of Siena., Italy. In 2016 he established The Centre For Creative Practice that teaches creativity across a wide range of organisations and learning institutions and 16 countries. He is lead Creative Practice and leadership trainer for the UN.

Over the next five years David is working Internationally  on four Legacy projects. AB Project is a nine country youth arts empowerment project using the Anders Brevk killing of 69 young people as a provocation to celebrate the potential of those lost voices at this time of youth polarisation  and marginalisation. This Changes Everything a theatrical adaptation of Naomi Klein’s seminal work on climate change and Capitalism. War/Peace an International co-production with the Japan Olympics 2020. And A Devine Comedy a trilogy of works celebrating the madness of theatre and the modern world. All of these projects will feed into a legacy learning strand of the DG  Ensemble and its educational partners and that is being researched and developed as part of his Phd into Creativity.

In 2018 David was made a senior foreign intellectual consultant on Creativity and Creative Practice to the Ministry of Education China to cascade his methodologies to schools , colleges and Universities over the coming five years.

David  believes passionately in the right of young people to celebrate through the arts and that creative learning is not a commodity but a birth right. He is a citizen of the world who resides in London.
